The witch’s heart motif, deeply rooted in Victorian sentiment, was worn as a talisman of protection and devotion. Its distinctive asymmetrical curve—often said to represent a heart turned or “bewitched”—symbolised being utterly captivated by love, whilst also guarding the wearer against ill fortune and unwanted affections. This example is a particularly poetic creation. A sinuous golden branch unfurls into delicate, heart-shaped foliate forms, embodying the Art Nouveau fascination with nature, growth, and the intertwining of life and emotion.
