Art Deco 9 Carat Gold Monogrammed Signet Ring, Chester 1930

A satisfyingly chunky Art Deco gentleman’s signet ring in 9 carat gold, tipping the scales at an impressive 6 grams and carrying full Chester hallmarks for 1930. The design is all clean lines and quiet confidence: an octagonal head set on sturdy shoulders that flow into a solid, comforting band – very much a ring you feel as well as see.

The face is engraved with an intertwined “M” and “T”, executed in an elegant period script. Antique monograms were often chosen for their aesthetic appeal as much as their literal initials, so modern wearers need not feel constrained by the letters themselves – they become part of the ring’s history rather than a prescription for who may enjoy it. In everyday styling, the engraving simply reads as an Art Deco flourish, adding character and individuality.

Inside the band sit clear Chester assay marks for 9 carat gold, dated 1930, together with the maker’s mark T & S, likely for W H Tandy & Sons of Vyse Street, Birmingham. The result is a thoroughly English signet ring with all the hallmarks of quality: solid gold, excellent weight, and that unmistakable early-20th-century style.
